That leaves one series, the Ducks-Flames series. As suspected, the Ducks get the easy W. Not a w, an S, for sweep. This western conference first round was not lopsided matchups, but the results were. Two 4-0 series, and one 4-1 series. I expected a easy Anaheim win, but definitely not a sweep. Here are some things that the Ducks did well in the series
1. Entering the playoffs, the were fantastic. In the last fourteen games of the regular season, the were 11-0-3. A phenomenal record going into the postseason, especially since they had already clinched, and Perry and Getzlaf sat out for most of those games. That shows that their team has so much depth, which is another reason their team succeeded in the First Round. "We're a deep team, We got contributions every game from a different guy. Just plugged away and played two good road games to wrap it up." Bieska said.
2. Ryan Getzlaf, who never shoots shot many and scored. This veteran captain understands what needs to change from the regular season, and what needs to happen in the post-season. He had 3 goals and 2 assists. "Our group did a good job staying focused," Getzlaf said. "It's our job to settle things down and play the way we did throughout."
3. They had Fantastic Goaltending, including the Beast John Gibson, and in game 3, Jonathan Bernier. Those two let in so few goals in the series, and stopped the Flames from doing what they do.
4. This is an obvious but true one, but the Ducks have a lot of playoff experience, especially compared to the Flames.
Not only did the Ducks play amazing, but the Flames, did not play that well, despite the stats being pretty even. Here are some reasons why the Flames lost
1. They had no puck luck in the series, and as Giordano says, "You realize how slim the margin is between winning and losing, Some nights it's a bounce. Some nights it's a penalty. Some nights it's little things. In this series we had a little bit of everything." expect some puck luck
2. Unlike the Ducks Goaltender, Brian Elliot was far from on fire. He was not playing well, unlike the end of the regular season. he had 3.39 GA and a .880 Save%, his lowest of the season.
3. They only had two 5-on-5 goals, and the other 5 coming on the power play. Automatically when you score seven goals in four games, they have a problem, but only two on even strength?! That, is a serious issue!
